Bayern fear Arsenal threat in race to sign ÂŁ87.3m attacker
Bayern Munich are in the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen attacker Christian Kofane, although they fear strong competition from Arsenal.
The Bavarian giants are expected to explore the market for a back-up striker this summer, especially with Nicolas Jackson set to return to his parent club.
The 24-year-old has scored five goals in eight Bundesliga starts, but Bayern are unlikely to pursue a permanent deal with Chelsea.
Christian Falk has told CfBayern Insider that while Bayern do hold an interest in Kofane, he is only one of several names on their shortlist for the summer.
Sporting director Christoph Freund did not dismiss the speculation when asked about Bayernâs interest, although the club are also monitoring alternative options such as Hoffenheim striker Fisnik Asllani.
Falk further noted that Bayern could struggle to secure Kofane if Arsenal decide to make a serious push for the 19-year-old in the upcoming window.
The Bild journalist said: âIt is TRUE: There is interest in Christian Kofane and heâs on the list. Christoph Freund, the sporting director, was asked about this topic and he didnât deny it.
âThat said, Bayern arenât searching intensely in this particular position. There are still rumours about Fisnik Asllani of Hoffenheim, whoâs also on this list.
âIn the end, Bayern want a left-winger, they want to buy a right-back, and in the end, if thereâs money left (although Bayern would then have to sell players to get some money in), then there would be a chance for such players. Of course, if Arsenalâs at the table, itâs getting hard!â
Gabriel Jesus has struggled with injuries this season, and his long-term future at the North London club remains uncertain.
Christian Falk previously informed CFBayern that Arsenal are expected to make a formal bid for Kofane in the summer window.
Leverkusen are believed to value the striker between ÂŁ52.3m and ÂŁ61m, while the playerâs agent, Eric Depolo thinks the youngster is worth ÂŁ87.3m.
âHe is a âŹ100 million player. With Kofane, Arsenal would have a top striker for the next ten years,â said Depolo in a recent interview.
Kofane has registered five goals and three assists in 26 Bundesliga games this season, while also made 11 appearances in the Champions League.
