Bills want new Highmark Stadium to have special regular season debut

The Buffalo Bills have some high hopes for the first regular season game at home in 2026 and have let the NFL know that.

The 2026 season will be the first one held at the team's new Highmark Stadium.

Prior to the regular season, the Bills will have their chance to hold a few test runs in the preseason and during training camp at the venue. But once the stadium is full go, Buffalo has a request for Round 1: Put it on prime time.

According to the Buffalo News, the team has presented that idea to the league, to have the first game held at the new Highmark Stadium as a prime-time contest in some manner:

In an interview with the team’s chief operating officer and president of business operations Pete Guelli, that request submission was confirmed:

“We’ve already been approached by networks that would like to have it. We’re just trying to work through that. It’s really a league decision. We have talked to the NFL about our desire to potentially see that be a prime-time game. That discussion went well, and we’re going to continue to work through it and see where it nets out. However it’s set up, we’re going to make sure that home opener is a big event.”

In terms of those test runs, the first occasion will be the Return of the Blue and Red training camp practice on Aug. 8. It was already announced by the team.
