The New York Giants currently hold the No. 5 overall pick in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, and could go in several different directions with that choice.
Looking at the myriad of mock drafts available, popular picks for the team are Ohio State's Sonny Styles and Caleb Downs as well as Miami offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa. Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love is also in that mix, but the idea of trading back to acquire more picks might be enticing to the front office as well.
Appearing on ESPN's "Get Up" last week, former New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum had another idea. He actually thinks that the Giants should trade up to ensure they get Love.
"Jeremiyah Love may be the best player in this draft. He is explosive with the ball in his hands, he is an impeccable pass-blocker, he catches the ball... 63 receptions, and if I'm the New York Giants and I'm trying to set the tone with John Harbaugh, do I actually think about trading up above the Tennessee Titans at four, maybe flipping with Arizona at threeto get a tone-setting, culture-setting player in Jeremiyah Love?", said Tannenbaum.
Though I am on record as stating that the Giants simply can't pass on the chance to get Love in this draft, that is strictly if he is still on the board at No.5. Even moving up a spot or two, as Tannenbaum suggests, would be quite costly and would almost certainly include the team giving up a future first-round pick.
The thought of pairing Love with Cam Skattebo in the backfield is exciting, but the Giants' best play might be to trade back to get more picks for Joe Schoen to work with and flesh out the roster in John Harbaugh's vision.
