Initially, Gary Woodland was a basketball player, but years after he last stepped onto the court, he is now a golf star.

From his PGA Tour debut in 2011 and his 2019 U.S. Open title to his standout performance in 2026 to win the Houston Open, just three years following surgery for a brain tumor, Woodland has become a significant figure in his sport. He shared in March 2026 that he continues to battle post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from his brain surgery.

Supporting Woodland along his journey has been his family, including his wife and three children.

Gary Woodland wife: Gabby Granado

Woodland's wife is Gabby Granado. The two have been married since 2016, and they have since welcomed three children together.

Per People.com, Woodland first shared an Instagram post with Granado in 2014, around the time they were engaged, although he hasn't publicly shared how they met. They first appeared together in November 2011 at the 56th World Cup; per KUsports.com, Woodland and Granado got engaged in early 2014.

While Woodland attended Washburn University and the University of Kansas, Granado attended Baylor, as the golfer has shared on social media.

When Woodland has had some of his biggest golf victories, he's often mentioned his wife's support. That includes at the 2019 Open Championship, his first major win.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without her, to be honest with you,” Woodland told The Topeka Capital-Journal of Granado.

Similarly, when Woodland won the 2026 Houston Open, just a few years after his brain tumor surgery, he spoke about his wife.

"This has been hard on me. It's been a lot harder on her," Woodland said, per ESPN.

During Woodland's experience with a brain lesion, on Netflix's "Full Swing," Granado spoke about the shock of her husband's medical issue.

"It literally came out of nowhere," Granado said. “Our life was completely changed."

How many children does Gary Woodland have?

Woodland and Granado share three children together.

Their oldest, Jaxson, was born in 2017. Then, in 2019, the couple welcomed twin daughters, Maddox and Lennox.

Woodland and Granado's oldest child, a son, is Jaxson Woodland. He was born in 2017.

Jaxson was born 10 weeks premature, weighing just three pounds, the family shared.

“G and I are so excited to welcome Jaxson Lynn Woodland into the world. He came to us 10 weeks early kicking and screaming at 3lbs," Gary wrote on Instagram in 2017. "G and Jax are both doing great. Thank you to all the doctors, nurses and NICU for helping take care of our little boy."

Gary Woodland family tragedy

Initially, in March 2017, Woodland and Granado shared on Instagram that they were expecting twins.

However, under a month later, Woodland released a statement sharing that the couple had lost one of the babies due to complications.

"Gabby and I have since had to cope with the heartbreaking loss of one of the babies, and our doctors will be closely monitoring the health of my wife and the other baby for the remainder of the pregnancy," Woodland wrote.

In June 2017, Jaxson Woodland was then born. In the months afterward, per Golf Digest, Gary would often FaceTime his wife to talk to Jaxson while he was traveling for golf.

"The struggles my wife has had to deal with, it's been hard for me to leave home," Woodland said, per Golf Digest. "It's a huge relief just knowing he's safe. For so long, we didn't know if he was going to make it before he was born."

In 2019, Woodland also said that in the previous year, his wife had suffered two miscarriages, per ESPN.

In 2019, Woodland and Granado welcomed identical twin daughters.

One of Woodland's two daughters is Maddox Woodland.

The twins were born in August 2019, not long after their father won his first major at the Open Championship.

“The last month has been really hard. Winning [the U.S. Open] was spectacular but Gabby has been in and out of the hospital and we didn’t know when the girls would come. It was tough to play,” Woodland said after welcoming the twins, per the Golf Channel. “It was nice to be home and nice that the girls are healthy.”

Woodland's other identical twin daughter is Lennox Woodland.

At the 2026 Masters, Gary Woodland shared to ESPN what the experience meant to him, having his children at Augusta National.

Woodland's parents are Dan and Linda Woodland.

Gary Woodland's dad is Dan Woodland. The two were in the spotlight together at the 2025 PNC Championship.

In 2019, Dan Woodland told ESPN that in 2009, he had suffered a heart attack while playing golf.

"I had three bypasses," he said. "I passed."

He told the outlet that he spent around a week in a Scottsdale, Arizona, hospital afterward, and doctors brought him back to life.

"People ask me all the time, 'Did you see any lights?'" Dan Woodland said. "No. I didn't even know it was happening."

In that story, Gary, a rising star, had also described his relationship with his dad, saying he's his "best friend."

"I wouldn't be where I am today without my dad, and the way he treated me, and the way he was hard on me," Gary Woodland told ESPN in 2019. "And that's something I look forward to doing with my son."

In 2025, after each dealing with their own medical issues in recent years, Gary and Dan Woodland teamed up at the PNC Championship. Dan had previously been diagnosed with lymphoma, per the Palm Beach Post.

“We talked about it for a while. It was nice to get the call,” Woodland said before the tournament, per Golf Digest. “This is a special one. I know it’s a major-champion deal, so I knew when I won in ’19 that we’d have an opportunity. From a health standpoint, this is the first year that we’ve really been able to do it. It was nice to be able to get that call and be able to do it for sure.”

That was two years after the star golfer's brain surgery, which he said put his life "in perspective," and around one year after Dan had been diagnosed with cancer, Gary shared.

"My whole life is in perspective now. To be honest, I probably took it for granted being out here. This is my 17th year out here on Tour. You just expect that to happen every year,” Woodland said, per Golf Digest. “It’s still been a journey, right? I’m still battling. I’m still grinding. Even for us, my first tournament back after surgery was Sony, and I got a call the Saturday before from my mom that my dad got diagnosed with cancer. So my poor mom’s been through it more than either one of us, dealing with us.

“But he rang the bell [for being cancer-free] almost a year ago now, and I’ve gotten to a point where I’m still healing but I’m getting better. This is a special week for both of us for perspective for sure.”

At the time, Dan Woodland said the PNC Championship was an opportunity he couldn't pass up on.

"Unfortunately, I don’t play a whole lot. Gary gave me a call about a month ago, month and a half ago, and I can tell you, I’ve hit more golf balls the last month and a half than I have the last 25 years,” he said, per Golf Digest. “So that kind of explains it all. Like I say, I spend a lot of time with my grandkids, but how can you turn this opportunity down? It’s awesome.”

Woodland's mom is Linda Woodland. Unlike her husband, Dan, there is not a lot that Linda has shared publicly.

In 2019, Linda Woodland described her experience with her husband's 2009 heart attack to ESPN.

"It happened right in front of me," Linda said. "I screamed for a nurse. ... They did a code blue in his room a couple of times over the intercom."

She also spoke about Gary and Gabby's difficulties when losing a twin in 2017.

"It was his first child," Linda told ESPN. "Just having a wife that's pregnant and then losing one of [the children], it's such a traumatic experience. He matured a lot through that. He was getting texts and emails from people all over the world -- and that helped."

Does Gary Woodland have any siblings?

Woodland has one sibling, a sister named C.J. Head.

Woodland's sister is C.J. Head.

She is two years older than the star golfer, per KSNT, and they both enjoy golfing.

"I would play my 18 holes and go to the pool because I’d had enough, and Gary would stay and play another 18,” Head told KSNT in 2019.

Woodland's sister also caddied for him before he went pro at a tournament in Georgia.

It was kind of close to where Augusta National is, so they thought they could try to take a peak at the green,” Head told KSNT. “We drove around the whole grounds trying to see just a flag stick or the green or anything, we couldn’t see anything.”

Where is Gary Woodland from?

Woodland is from Topeka, Kansas. He attended Shawnee Heights High School, where he played both basketball and golf.

Initially, it was basketball that Woodland pursued. He was the first all-state basketball selection in Shawnee Heights history as a senior, averaging 18 points per game, then attended Washburn University on a basketball scholarship.

However, after his freshman year, Woodland transferred to the University of Kansas to play golf. While playing for the Jayhawks, he won the 2005 Cleveland State Invitational, 2006 Kansas Invitational, 2007 All-American Golf Classic and 2007 Louisiana Classic before turning pro in 2007.
