Liverpool believe Anfield can inspire comeback against PSG
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot and captain Virgil van Dijk believe that Anfield can help the team complete a remarkable comeback against PSG in the UEFA Champions League.
The Parisians ran roughshod over the Reds in the first leg of the quarter-final at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night, winning 2-0 following two brilliant individual goals from Desire Doue and Kvara Kvaratskhelia.
Despite being thoroughly outclassed in France, Slot thinks his side still have a chance of turning the tie around thanks to the scoreline.
âIf you reflect on the whole game I think we are lucky with only losing two nil,â he told TNT Sports.
âI think it was very good for us we are still in the tie, we can bring them to Anfield and we know how good Anfield can be for us.â
Van Dijk added that Liverpool need to be âabsolutely spot onâ in the return leg to overturn the two-goal deficit. âHopefully, our fans can play a big part in that. Our fans are the backbone of the club, and hopefully they can be there for us.â

Asked in his post-match press conference about their chances of reaching the semi-finals, Slot said: âProbably I have to refer to last season, what gives me the best feeling and I have to refer to the history of this club, how much impact Anfield can make for a performance.
âWe were outplayed here last season, which led to a 1-0 win from us which was unbelievable. Paris Saint-Germain was by far the better team today, could have scored more than two goals.
âBut the good thing was that the players of Liverpool showed fighting spirit, kept going.
âAlmost every time they had a shot, we had a lot of players behind the ball or protecting our box, which was necessary because if you donât run back, these players, like the ones from City, are able to hurt you a lot.
âLast season at Anfield we played a completely different game and after 10 minutes could have been 2-0 up.
âBut we need to have a) a better performance and b) we definitely need our fans to help us to create an atmosphere where we can rise to a better level than we did so today.â
