After taking Game 1 of the series against the San Francisco Giants (6-4), the Philadelphia Phillies were shut out in Game 2 (6-0). If the shutout wasnât bad enough, the Phillies also lost their Gold Glove catcher, J.T. Realmuto, for the game.
Realmuto, 35, took a foul ball off his right foot/ankle in the bottom of the first inning. The three-time All-Star would leave the game not too long after due to not being able to block a pitch in the dirt effectively.
According to manager Rob Thomson, via MLB.comâs Todd Zolecki, Realmutoâs X-rays were negative, and the Phillies would reevaluate on Wednesday for his status moving forward.

The Phillies and Giants play an afternoon game on Wednesday, with an off day on Thursday before traveling back to Philadelphia. Backup catcher Rafael Marchan will likely get the start to give Realmuto two days off. Marchan went 0-4 with a strikeout after replacing Realmuto.
Signing a three-year ($45 million) contract in the offseason to remain in Philadelphia, Realmuto has done okay to start the season. Through nine games, the three-time Silver Slugger is batting .240 with an OPS of .806, with a home run, five walks, and six strikeouts.
Realmutoâs defense has been better than his bat this season, posting 16 defensive runs saved in 75.0 innings. Last season, Realmutoâs defense took a slight step back, with a -2 defensive runs saved and committing six errors in 1151.1 innings. However, he did lead baseball in putouts (1,216) and double plays (10).
