Report – Inter Milan Reluctant To Offer Italy Veteran New Contract Despite Rock-Solid Performance Vs Roma
Inter Milan and Francesco Acerbi are set to part company at the end of the season.
According to Corriere dello Sport via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri won’t offer the 38-year-old a new contract.
Signed from Lazio in 2022, Francesco Acerbi has been a reliable defensive option for Inter in the last four years.
However, the veteran center-back has tumbled down the pecking order this season.
Indeed, Manuel Akanji and Yann Bisseck have leapfrogged the Italian star in the hierarchy.
For context, manager Cristian Chivu has handed Acerbi just 12 Serie A starts so far.
Despite delivering another rock-solid performance in Sunday’s 5-2 rout of Roma, Acerbi has failed to convince Inter to offer him a new deal.
Meanwhile, he has less than three months left to run on his current contract at San Siro.
Therefore, the former AC Milan defender will leave the club as a free agent in June.
In addition to Acerbi, Inter are preparing to sever ties with several other veteran stars.
Indeed, Yann Sommer, Matteo Darmian, Stefan de Vrij, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan will all be out of contract at the end of the season.
As things stand, only the Armenian midfielder could earn a short-term extension.
