Two Lazio Protagonists Targeting Return Against Atalanta
Lazio stars Mattia Zaccagni and Mario Gila are aiming to make their comebacks from injury in the decisive Coppa Italia clash against Atalanta.
Maurizio Sarriâs team has been hampered by injuries since the start of the season. Despite the absences, the Biancocelseti have put together a positive run in Serie A, winning three and drawing one in their last four contests. However, with their hopes of catching up with the Top 7 having all but faded, winning the domestic cup remains their only plausible path to Europe.
The Aquile reached the semi-final after eliminating AC Milan and Bologna, but they squandered the lead twice in the first leg against Atalanta to settle for a 2-2 draw at home. The return leg will take place in Bergamo on April 22, and Sarri will be hoping to recover two key players.
According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, Gila could be set to miss the next two contests against Fiorentina and Napoli as he continues to suffer from an inflammation in his knee from the knock he sustained at the DallâAra before the international break.
Therefore, the Spanish defender is aiming to return to action in the all-important cup tie against Atalanta. The same goes for Mattia Zaccagni, who suffered a grade II muscle injury against Milan, but has been making some progress in his rehabilitation in recent days.
On the other hand, Patric should make a swift recovery and rejoin the squad in Mondayâs contest against Fiorentina. The defender-turned-Regista had a slight issue that forced him to sit out Saturdayâs game against Parma. He should be a useful addition, as Danilo Cataldi looked physically exhausted at the end of the weekend contest.
Finally, Luca Pellegriniâs condition will be assessed in the coming days, while Nicolo Rovella and Ivan Provedel remain long-term absentees.
