UFC 327 video: Tatiana Suarez chokes out Loopy Godinez for statement submission win

Tatiana Suarez took out a tough opponent at UFC 327, and she still has her eyes on the ultimate prize.

In a strawweight bout Saturday on the UFC 327 preliminary card, Suarez battled back from adversity to score a rear-naked choke submission win over a dangerous Loopy Godinez.

Godinez came out swinging to start, rocking Suarez early and going for the finish on the ground. That decision may have been an error as Suarez managed to recover before utilizing her highly respected wrestling game to turn the tide and put Godinez on her back. Godinez likely still won the first round as Suarez did little damage on top, but Godinez’s advantage was lost by the time the Round 2 bell sounded.

Suarez again took the fight to the ground and this time she managed more significant offense as she eventually took Godinez’s back and secured a rear-naked choke to earn the stoppage at the 2:29 mark of the second round.

That’s two straight wins now for Suarez (12-1), who used her post-fight interview time to declare her intentions to challenge for the UFC strawweight title again. She also dedicated the fight to a loved one who recently died from cancer.

Godinez (14-6) sees another opportunity slip away as falls to 9-6 in her UFC career.
