Washington Huskies reportedly in contact with high-scoring Buffalo G

As Danny Sprinkle looks to retool his backcourt through the transfer portal ahead of his third season with the Washington Huskies, one option who has emerged is former Buffalo guard Daniel Frietag.

According to a report from Rising Ballers Network's Dylan Lutey, the Huskies are among a handful of high-major programs taking a look at, alongside California, Creighton, Ole Miss, Oregon State, and Penn State, after he posted 19.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 36.1 percent from three-point range across 23 appearances in his one year with the Buffaloes.

After initially signing with the Wisconsin Badgers as a four-star recruit, the 6-foot-2 guard played sparingly in the Big Ten during his freshman season before opting to transfer down to get playing time. Now, with more experience under his belt, Freitag won't be making a financially driven decision as he looks for his next home.

"I'm looking forward to hopefully calling this last spot my last spot," Freitag said in an interview with Matt Michaels. "At every stop I've made, I haven't valued money a ton. I definitely want to be respected, and I know my worth, although I know if that drives your decision-making, things can be a little weird."

After losing sophomore guard Zoom Diallo, who averaged 15.7 points per game last season, to the transfer portal while freshmen JJ Mandaquit and Courtland Muldrew are also looking for new homes, the Huskies will need an infusion of scoring in the backcourt.

Although he wasn't able to crack the rotation during his first stint in the Big Ten, the Huskies would likely lean heavily on Freitag as a rotational scorer behind junior Wesley Yates if he were to make his way to Montlake.
