2027 4-Star QB Wonderful ‘Champ’ Monds makes college commitment: Live update
4-Star QB Wonderful 'Champ' Monds announces college commitment live!
The Nebraska Cornhuskers softball team can secure the Big 10 regular season title by winning two of three games against Penn State this weekend. Oregon and UCLA are the only other teams with a chance to win the title.
The Big 10 Tournament takes place starting next week, but before that can happen, there’s the matter of the 24-game Big 10 regular season title. The Cornhuskers find themselves in the position of being able to wrap that up at Penn State this weekend, while Oregon and UCLA, the only two teams with a mathematical chance to win, play a set of their own in Los Angeles.
I laid out all the possibilities in this week’s TWIS Notes – CLICK HERE to check those out – but the simple answer is Huskers can claim the regular season crown by winning two of the three games against the Nittany Lions regardless of the western match-up.
Here’s what you need to know about that.
That’s right – every Tuesday night at 8PM.
It’s called Husker Heat and we started our 3rd season two weeks ago. With my lovely daughter Mylie as my co-host (of course I’m biased – daughter), we cover the previous weekend, preview the coming games, talk about current storylines and likely find a couple of non-softball topics to chatter about as well. We try to keep it around 45 minutes (try!) while still making sure you’re the best-informed softball fans in Nebraska.
There’s a section for comments, so please fire away with any thoughts or questions and if we don’t have answers on hand, we’ll try to have them for you by next week’s show. It broadcasts on Facebook Live, Twitter and YouTube Live.
And bonus? Mylie and her fiancé adopted a doggo, so we’ll likely have a guest puppy flopping around on broadcasts! (Say hello to Tatum)

**Weather:**The weather could be a little iffy for Friday’s contest. I tried to hold off a little but the forecast still calls for a chance of some showers (50% through around the 4pm start time with 50% again around 7pm). Temps should be in the mid-50’s with WSW winds of 5-10mph. Showers should just be occasional and if for any reason they can’t get it in, the game could always be finished Saturday which will be a little chillier around 50, but with partly sunny skies. Expect the same Sunday with slightly warmer temps and a little more wind.
Penn State (32-17, 11-10 Big Ten 9th – 2-way tie)
Penn State is 32-17 overall with an 11-10 mark in Big Ten play. The Nittany Lions come into the weekend fresh off a sweep of Illinois. Nebraska and Penn State have common opponents in Rutgers, Wisconsin, Tennessee and UCF. NU is 7-1 against those teams, while Penn State is 6-3.
Head Coach Clarisa Crowell is in her sixth season at Penn State and is 162-136 with the Nittany Lions. She is 376-322-1 in 14 seasons in her career.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Allison Oneacre paces the PSU offense with a .388 batting average, along with 17 homre runs and 58 RBI. Brooke Klosowicz has a team-high 56 hits and adds 51 RBI.
Penn State splits time evenly among five pitchers — McKenna Young (3.31 ERA, 12-4, 65.2 IP), Abigail Britton (3.45 ERA, 5-5, 65.0 IP), Mackenzie Duncan (3.81 ERA, 7-1, 53.1 IP), Brevyn Kellepouris (4.60 ERA, 4-2, 59.1 IP) and Bridget Nemeth (4.93 ERA, 4-5, 66.2 IP).

G3: JORDY FRAHM
The top three and #9 spots in the order are set for the post-season; spots 4-8 may see a little shuffling based on hot/cold streaks and matchups.
I thought Hannah Camenzind might get the game #3 start last weekend but Coach Revelle went with Frahm – and that, too, might be indicative of post-season plans. Last season, that plan was to start Jordy in every single game.
No, literally.
This time around, she will be taking advantage of freshman Alexis Jensen who will be going for her 20th win in her next start. These two will likely split the starts until this season is over one way or another and you will likely only see Camenzind or Kylee Magee if game’s get out of hand.
