The New York Mets are in the middle of a brutal start to the season. They lost 12 games in a row at one point, and have lost Juan Soto, Jorge Polanco, Luis Robert Jr., and Francisco Lindor to injuries at points this season.

"Amid one of the worst starts in franchise history, the Mets are backing their manager," DiComo writes.
With the Mets owning the worst record in baseball at 10-21, the franchise isn't parting with Mendoza. Instead, they're backing the struggling Mets' manager.
"We know our record is not what we want, and we know we are capable of more," Stearns said. "We don't view this as a manager problem, and we don't intend to make a change."
This is a very strange decision from the Mets. After the collapse and massive disappointment that was the 2025 season, Mendoza was on the hot seat.
With how bad things are going this year, it wouldn't be strange if the Mets fired Mendoza at any moment. At least, that was the case.
Now, with Stearns strongly backing Mendoza, and the Mets' plan to keep him as their manager for the rest of the season, it's a baffling decision from the Mets.
While Mendoza isn't the only issue with the team, changing the manager might provide the team with the spark it needs. The Mets aren't taking such a chance, as they're sticking with Mendoza as the team's manager.
But instead of making a change, the Mets are sticking with Mendoza. This decision from the Mets is, for now, final. Mendoza's job is safe for now, as the Mets have no plans to part with their manager despite how bad things are going this year.
