The Washington Commanders made key selections in the 2026 NFL Draft, notably picking linebacker Sonny Styles at No. 7 overall. Analyst Pete Prisco highlighted Styles as the best pick, while fifth-round EDGE Joshua Josephs was deemed the worst.
The Washington Commanders went into the 2026 NFL Draft with only six picks, having traded second and fourth-round selections last March to the Houston Texans for five-time Pro Bowl left tackle. That proved to be an outstanding trade, as the team recently extended Tunsil for two more seasons, keeping him under contract through 2028.
In the draft, Washington used its first-round pick, No. 7 overall, to help a woeful defense, selecting Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles. Almost everyone believes the Commanders got that pick right. Washington didn't pick again until the third round, where it chose Clemson wide receiver Antonio Williams, giving quarterback Jayden Daniels a potential dynamic slot receiver.
So, who were Washington's best and worst picks? That's a question longtime CBS NFL writer Pete Prisco answered for all 32 teams. Here's what Prisco said about the Commanders:
Best Pick: It was their first one. Landing linebacker Sonny Styles gives Dan Quinn a young Bobby Wagner for his defense. Styles may end up being the best defensive player in this class.
Worst Pick: Fifth-round EDGE Joshua Josephs has some pop to his game, but he wasn't as productive as you would have expected at Tennessee. He does have pass-rush traits.
The Commanders selected linebacker Sonny Styles from Ohio State with the seventh overall pick.
Analyst Pete Prisco identified linebacker Sonny Styles as the best pick and fifth-round EDGE Joshua Josephs as the worst pick for the Commanders.
The trade allowed the Commanders to acquire Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil, who they recently extended through 2028, enhancing their offensive line.

The Skinny: Getting Styles will help a defense that needed it in the worst way. Think Fred Warner in terms of his game. I really like third-round receiver Antonio Williams.
It's no surprise that Prisco chose Styles as the best pick. He's correct. The Fred Warner comparison is one we hear often when it comes to Styles.
Calling Josephs, a toolsy edge rusher who was chosen in the fifth round, the worst pick, not so sure about that one. If you look at most draft boards, Josephs was viewed as an incredible value for the Commanders, with most believing he'd go in the third or fourth round. Washington is betting on potential here, which is what you do with Day 3 draft picks.
