The New Orleans Saints privately met with Louisville defensive lineman Rene Konga ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft. Konga, projected as a fifth-to-sixth round pick, showcased impressive athleticism and performance during his college career.
There has been extensive discussion about the New Orleans Saints focusing on wide receiver and pass rusher positions in the 2026 NFL Draft, while other positions have received less attention. Despite Davon Godchaux playing a significant role for the New Orleans run defense in 2025, the Saints may look to add a defensive lineman on Day 3 of the draft, particularly Louisville defensive tackle Rene Konga.
Konga is projected to be a fifth-to-sixth round prospect, according to Dane Brugler of The Athletic. He has attracted attention from various teams throughout the draft process. At 298 pounds, he ran a 4.79-second 40-yard dash and recorded a broad jump of 10 feet 2 inches, along with a vertical jump of 37 inches. Konga told Justin Melo of OnSI that he "met privately" with the Saints and their defensive line coach, Bo Davis.
The 23-year-old, incredibly athletic defensive lineman solidified his role with Louisville in 2025, recording 29 tackles, five tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and six pass deflections across 12 games as a starter. Konga also earned second-team All-ACC honors. Following the season, he participated in the American Bowl and has continued to impress NFL teams, including taking pre-draft visits with the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs, according to a source.
Konga would be a tremendous long-term fit for the Saints, as he has the potential to learn and grow during his first year or two under the guidance of Davis and the rest of the defensive line room. Once he is ready to contribute, Konga can leverage his outstanding physical attributes and well-developed technique to make a significant impact in New Orleans for years to come.
