Oilers' Kris Knoblauch's Role Raises Questions About McDavid's Future
Three undrafted rookies from the 2026 draft class have a chance to make the Indianapolis Colts' 53-man roster. Their performance and the availability of roster spots will be crucial in the selection process.
In recent years, we've seen undrafted rookies Dalton Tucker and Johnathan Edwards make the Indianapolis Colts' 53-man roster out of training camp. Which UDFAs from the 2026 draft class have the best opportunity to accomplish that?
Of course, how these players perform throughout the summer will carry the most weight when it comes to making these final roster decisions. But also a key part of the equation is that the player has to be at a position where there is a potential roster spot up for grabs.
For example, UDFA defensive tackle Cam Ball from Arkansas faces an uphill battle to make the team, just given his position. Ahead of him on the depth chart are DeForest Buckner, Grover Stewart, Colby Wooden, Adetomiwa Adebawore, Jerry Tillery, Derrick Nnadi, and Tim Smith. At most, the Colts likely only keep six at this position.
So, taking into account those two important factors -- level of play and roster construction -- here are three UDFAs to watch for as offseason programs and eventually training camp begin.

The depth of the linebacker position for the Colts remains a question, which could open up an opportunity for Weeks to make a roster push. Playing 564 snaps in 2025, Weeks found success as a blizter, totaling 13 pressures with three sacks. He recorded 66 tackles, missing 11, and in coverage, held opponents to 9.1 yards per catch.
Behind Jonathan Taylor, the backup running back role and the third spot on the depth chart are up for grabs. Presumably, some combination of DJ Giddens and Seth McGowan will earn those roles, but neither is considered an absolute roster lock either. Along with being productive as a ball carrier, the ability to impact the passing game -- both as a blocker and pass-catcher -- and special teams play will be important factors when determining these roles. Vaughn was a big-play threat this past season, averaging a whopping 6.0 yards per rush on 113 carries. He proved to be very tough to bring down, averaging 4.42 yards after contact.
Bernhard Raimann will start at left tackle, but after that, there are some question marks at this position for the Colts. Jalen Travis is the expected starting right tackle, but he is still a relatively inexperienced player. Luke Tenuta and Blake Freeland will compete for the swing tackle role, but Tenuta has few regular-season reps, while Freeland hasn't seen steady playing time since 2023 and is coming off an injury. Starting at right tackle the last two seasons, Ruccie allowed just two total sacks over 599 pass-blocking snaps.
