Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys head into the 2026 season still trying to end a two-year playoff absence. Their offseason has already been marked by several aggressive roster moves and high-profile additions, but the front office may not be finished yet, as more potential upgrades continue to surface.
According to a recent Bleacher Report piece by Kristopher Knox, the Cowboys have been mentioned as a possible landing spot for New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara, alongside teams like the Kansas City Chiefs.
Kamara originally signed a five-year, $75 million extension in 2020 and later agreed to a two-year, $24.5 million extension in 2024. He remains on the Saints roster for now, but his future could shift after June 1. If they were to trade him after that date, they would create a modest cap savings of $456,741, while moving him earlier would instead trigger a $7.6 million dead cap hit for 2026. It ultimately makes timing a major factor in any potential deal.

Kamara has spent his entire NFL career with the Saints and has previously expressed a desire to remain in New Orleans, but the teamâs current roster construction could complicate that preference. With the Saints committing heavily to Travis Etienne on a four-year deal this offseason and other younger running backs also in the mix, Kamaraâs role has shifted more toward being a veteran luxury rather than a long-term centerpiece.
On the Cowboysâ side, the running back room features Javonte Williams, who expected to return as the starter after a strong bounce-back season in which he rushed for 1,201 yards while handling 287 total touches and contributing heavily in pass protection. Behind him, the team also has depth options in Malik Davis and 2025 sixth-round pick Jaydon Blue.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys fans may remember Kamara quite well already. He delivered a memorable performance in their Week 2 game in 2024, shredding the Dallas defense for four total touchdowns to secure the Saints' win.
