The Jacksonville Jaguars had no first-round pick in the 2026 NFL draft but benefited from the lack of linebacker selections. This outcome is favorable for their current roster plans.
The Jacksonville Jaguars were without a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL draft, but things did seem to play out quite well for them, all things considered.
Here are three Jaguars-specific takeaways from Round 1 of the draft.
The Jaguars are bullish about Ventrell Miller stepping into the starting role next to Foye Oluokun. However, adding competition for those snaps wouldn't be a bad idea either. Through the first round, no linebackers were selected -- a best-case scenario for the Jaguars in this regard.
Not unlike the linebacker position, the defensive tackle spot was largely untouched. Only Clemson's Peter Woods was taken. This is a position where depth, competition, and a more consistent pass rush presence are needed.
Meanwhile, at edge rusher, while five players from that position were selected in the first round, that is on the low side compared to what some draft analysts expected, giving the Jaguars more potential options when picking on Day 2.
The Jaguars entered the draft with quite a bit of flexibility already, holding 11 total picks and four in the top 100. That still remains heading into Day 2, with these key positions of need still having plenty of talent available. Other positions, like cornerback and wide receiver, have maintained strong depth as well. Jacksonville has the ability to let the board dictate which direction they go -- and that's a good thing.

There were reports beforehand that the Jaguars were "exploring" opportunities to move into Round 1. But with how that round unfolded, there really wasn't a need to make a big jump. As mentioned, the board is positioned well for Jacksonville.
