The Miami Dolphins had a rather thin safety room entering this offseason, and while they added a couple veterans who could play safety in free agency, they still needed more help at the position.
With that, the Dolphins took two safeties in the 2026 NFL draft, including Kyle Louis in the fourth round.
Louis, and his rookie teammates, will be on the team's practice fields in South Florida for rookie minicamp starting on Friday. Here are a few things fans should know about him.
College Stats/Achievements
Louis was a three-star recruit out of East Orange Campus High School in East Orange, New Jersey, before committing to the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned All-ACC honors twice and All-American honors once.
In 37 games over four years, Louis recorded 201 tackles, 10 sacks, six interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Versatility
Louis is probably the most versatile rookie in Miami's class, as he played 846 snaps in the box, 532 snaps in the slot and 233 snaps along the defensive line during his time at Pittsburgh.
NFL combine
At this year's combine, Louis ran a 4.53-second 40-yard dash with a 1.58-second 10-yard split. He also recorded a 39.5-inch vertical jump and a 129-inch broad jump.
Expected role in Miami
While Dante Trader and Lonnie Johnson Jr. are expected to start at safety for the Dolphins in 2026, there's a strong chance that Louis pushes for a starting job this offseason. Even if he doesn't end up on the field for this snaps in Week 1, he'll most certainly be playing a lot as a rotational piece at both safety and linebacker as needed.
