The San Francisco 49ers were slated to only have six picks in the 2026 NFL draft, but after several trades, they added eight players throughout the seven rounds over the course of three days.
Among those players that San Francisco took is Washington offensive tackle Carver Willis, who spent five seasons at Kansas State before finishing up his collegiate career with one year playing for the Huskies.
While Willis started 27 games at right tackle over the last three games, he's ready to move if necessary.
"Yeah, that's something every team talked to me about. So yeah, I'm happy to do it no matter where they need me on the line," Willis said. "I've kind of said this whole time. I just want a shot in a playbook, and anywhere they need me on the line, I'm game. But every team talked about interior."
Willis is looking at the prospect of moving inside positively.
"Yeah, I knew it was probably going to happen," Willis said. "I didn't take any offense by it. There's a lot of guys that have done it before me. You look at [former Dallas Cowboys OL] Zack Martin. Zack Martin is like, probably the best to ever do it. He played tackle in college. So, I don't think there's anything to be offended by. I'm not a guy that's going to sit there and be like; I'm a tackle and have a huge ego about it. I like playing offensive line. Where that is on the offensive line, I don't really care. I like playing offensive line, and I like competing, so for me, anywhere along the five is good with me. I'm not particular to tackle, guard or center. Just tell me what to do and I'll go get it done."
Members of San Francisco's front office believes, he'll be even better moving to guard than he was out at tackle.
"He played tackle in college, and he has tackle ability, but we see him more on the inside, and with the scheme at Washington, we really have to see him do a lot of what we're going to ask him to do, in terms of the run game, running off the ball, outside zone," assistant general manager RJ Gillen said after the draft. "And then, with his pass protection ability at tackle sliding inside, we think he can be beneficial really there and be really good in pass protection. Both run and pass, he checks the boxes."
Carver Willis is willing to play any position on the offensive line, including interior roles.

This offseason, Willis will have an opportunity to compete with Connor Colby and Brett Toth to start in between Trent Williams and Jake Brendel at left guard in 2026. That's a battle that he can win if he's consistent.
