The San Francisco 49ers know their fair share of drafting a young quarterback bust, with the most recent example being Trey Lance. Lance has been around the league for the past few years, and some still think it could happen elsewhere. In a recent trade idea, he'd move on to the Minnesota Vikings in what could possibly give him a chance to play if things go south.

As 49ers fans all know too well at this point, Lance is just what he is at this stage. He likely isn't going to be a starting quarterback in the NFL and is better suited as a backup. There's nothing wrong with that, though he was expected to be a potential franchise guy in San Francisco at one point. The Vikings, however, could view him as a nice backup option.
The proposed trade would send Trey Lance and a sixth-round pick from the 49ers to the Vikings in exchange for J.J. McCarthy.
