Five-star cornerback Donte Wright has flipped his commitment from Georgia to Miami, surprising Oregon. Wright, ranked as the No. 2 corner and No. 8 overall recruit in the 2027 class, had been expected to join the Ducks.
A big recruiting domino that the Oregon Ducks have been waiting on finally came down on Saturday, but not in the way they expected.
Five-star cornerback Donte Wright flipped his commitment from the Georgia Bulldogs to the Miami Hurricanes, shunning the Ducks in the process. Oregon received predictions from Rivals recruiting experts in early March to flip the Long Beach Poly star, and they became the overwhelming favorites since then.
Wright took trips to Miami and UCLA and both schools emerged as contenders, but the Ducks were still expected to ultimately land the No. 2 corner and No. 8 overall recruit in the 2027 class, per the Rivals Industry Ranking. Wright was committed to the Bulldogs for nearly a year before flipping to the Hurricanes.
The pursuit for the Ducks certainly won't end here, but it is a devastating blow. The Ducks made Wright a priority, despite already securing commitments from a pair of corners in their class. Wright is still scheduled to take an official visit to Oregon on June 19, and the Ducks will do whatever it takes to keep him locked in for that visit.
Standing at 6-foot-1, Oregon viewed Wright as a potential star in the nickel role. The Ducks managed to hold on to defensive backs coach Rashad Wadood, who was being pursued by Miami as well, and he will remain a key part of the Ducks' pursuit of Wright.
For now, Oregon holds the No. 8 class in the country, per Rivals, while Miami vaults up to the No. 5 class after adding Wright. We will have to wait and see if the Ducks can find a way to make another late pitch to keep the California product out west.
