Former Georgia Bulldog basketball center Jackson McVey is transferring to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, according to Kelly Quinlan of Rivals. McVey will be going to the other side of the Clean, Ole-Fashioned Hate rivalry.
McVey was a three-star recruit from the class of 2025 when Georgia recruited him. The Overtime Elite product from Atlanta, Georgia, ranked as the No. 31 center in the class of 2025.
At 7-foot-1, 225 pounds, McVey was projected to be the center of the future once Somto Cyril left the program. He never earned any regular-season playing time, but with Cyril entering the portal (and committing to Miami), it was expected that McVey would inherit the center spot.
Unfortunately, McVey himself entered the portal, and he now enters a much different basketball atmosphere. The Yellow Jackets have been searching for relevant basketball for a while. Georgia Tech last made the NCAA Tournament in 2021 and doesn't have a March Madness win since 2010.
Last season was a disaster. They went 11-20, including 2-16 in the ACC. That placed them dead last in the ACC, and they were one of the only teams to miss the ACC Tournament. They fired head coach Damon Stoudamire, replacing him with Troy Trojans head coach Scott Cross.
Ironically enough, McVey's only minutes in a Georgia uniform came in an exhibition matchup against Cross's Trojans. McVey will surely be looking to break through in Georgia Tech's rotation.
