Adam Schefter reports that the San Francisco 49ers are likely to trade out of the No. 27 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. This move would mark a shift from their recent strategy of selecting an offensive tackle.

At roughly the 38-minute mark, you can listen to Adam Schefter share his intel for the San Francisco 49ers heading into the first night of the draft on his self-titled podcast.
Schefter said the Trent Williams deal has been in the works for a couple of weeks and that was something that was always going to get done. The reason it took so long was that both sides were working on the language.
The first thing he said after that would be a change from the organizationās recent history by adding another offensive tackle at No. 27. It sounds like that would be the case after trading out of the pick:
I now think the 49ers need another offensive tackle. Iām not going to be surprised if the 49ers trade out of this spot. Like a lot of teams, the 49ers would be open to moving back. Other teams open to moving back. The question is who is moving up?
But Trent Williams is now in the fold for a $50 million contract. The Niners are hopeful to get him for another couple of years. Heās contractually tied to them. Letās see how that plays out. It does give them a little bit of flexibility, but Iām looking for a move back.
Schefterās synopsis would make sense given Williamsā age. Colton McKivitz isnāt exactly a spring chicken. He turns 30 in August. Despite last September, there are three team options in his deal from 2026 to 2028. The team has loopholes built into McKivitzās contract that allow them to get out of it with minimal financial damage.
The 49ers are looking to trade out of pick No. 27 to potentially change their draft strategy and avoid selecting another offensive tackle.
Adam Schefter indicates that the 49ers are likely to trade their No. 27 pick, which represents a departure from their recent approach to the draft.
Adam Schefter mentioned that the deal involving Trent Williams has been in progress for a couple of weeks and was always expected to be finalized.

The Ringerās Todd McShay said Utah offensive tackle Caleb Lomu wouldnāt make it past the 49ers if he makes it to them at No. 27 on his podcast, but believes Lomu could get drafted before the Niners are on the clock.
Schefter mentioned Arizona State offensive tackle Max Iheanachor as an option for the Patriots at pick No. 31. He also believes the Texans, who pick directly after the 49ers, are in the offensive line market. He made it seem like there will be a run on offensive linemen in the 20s, especially if the Browns take a wide receiver with their top-10 first-round pick. Schefter brought up the Chargers and the Eagles as likely landing spots for offensive linemen.
Lomu, Iheanachor, Clemsonās Blake Miller, Alabamaās Kadyn Proctor, are the tackles projected to be drafted around the range when the 49ers are on the clock.
