The Green Bay Packers are being considered as potential trade candidates for Giants DT Dexter Lawrence, despite lacking first-round picks in 2026 and 2027. Lawrence has requested a trade due to contract extension frustrations.

Without a first-round pick in 2026 or 2027, the Packers would seemingly be out of the running if the New York Giants decide to move their star defensive tackle. Still, ESPNās Adam Schefter didnāt dismiss the possibility.

Lawrence and the Giants have reportedly reached an impasse on a contract extension, and the three-time Pro Bowler requested a trade last week amidst frustrations with his current deal. Heās scheduled to earn $20 million this season and $19.5 million in 2027.
At 28 years of age, Lawrence is still in his prime, but heās coming off a down year by his standards. After three straight Pro Bowl seasons and two second-team All-Pro selections, he finished 2025 with 31 tackles, four tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, and eight quarterback hits in 17 games.

The challenge is cost. According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, teams believe the Giants would require at least a first-round pickāand potentially moreāto move Lawrence. For context, the Dallas Cowboys gave up a 2027 conditional first-round pick, a 2026 second-rounder, and former first-rounder Mazi Smith to acquire Quinnen Williams last season.
Even beyond draft capital, the Packers would need to fork over a deal that places Lawrence among the highest-paid defensive tackles in the league. He currently ranks 10th at the position in total contract value, per Spotrac.
Itās a long shot, but not an illogical one. General manager Brian Gutekunst has made it clear the Packers aim to be involved in every major conversation, and Lawrence, an elite talent at a position of need, fits that mold.
