The Philadelphia Phillies started the year off on an absolutely terrible note. They've fired Rob Thomson, but they're 4-0 in the Don Mattingly era.
But, things easily could go south from here on out. If they do, some tough questions at the MLB trade deadline might have to be asked.
MLB.com's Mark Feinsand asked MLB executives which player they predict will be the biggest name moved at the MLB trade deadline, and this AL executive predicted Zack Wheeler as the one who could be on the move.
"If Philly can't right the ship, how heavy of a reset will they go through at the deadline?" This AL exec said. The Phillies can trade some players like Alec Bohm, Adolis Garcia, Bryson Stott, and Brandon Marsh if they feel the need to shake things up at the trade deadline if things are going terribly.
But, even those players shouldn't be dealt if there's even the slightest chance of making the postseason. And if the Phillies can continue to play well as they have against the San Francisco Giants and Miami Marlins, there's zero reason to trade anyone of note.
