Prior to choosing NC State, Cloer heavily considered the Crimson Tide. Alabama was in his top five with Florida, North Carolina and UConn. When he was being recruited by UA in July 2025, Cloer said to Sam Lance of ZagsBlog that Nate Oats is "one of the best coaches in college basketball."
"Alabama’s been a top five team in the country for the last three or four years. They play an NBA style offense," Cloer said. "I think in terms of how anybody in the country would want to play, that’s how they play. You know what I mean? They run-and-gun, shoot the ball a lot, score a lot points. The coach lets them play. He trusts his guys. So that’s probably the biggest thing.”
Cole Cloer is a 6-foot-7 forward who previously played for North Carolina State.
After adding Cole Cloer, Alabama basketball's transfer class is ranked 19th in the nation according to 247Sports.

Cloer is a native of Hillsborough, North Carolina. Although UNC's campus was just 15 minutes away from his hometown, Cloer's family raised him an NC State fan, which held weight in his final decision as the state's No. 1 player.
A knee injury suffered in practice forced Cloer − who reclassified from the 2027 class to enroll early at NC State − to miss the entirety of his freshman season with the Wolfpack.
Cloer also fractured four vertebrae during AAU play prior to his senior high school season at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
