The Boston Red Sox faced off against the Minnesota Twins on Monday night and the contest didn't go the club's way.
Boston sent Garrett Crochet to the hill, but even the Red Sox's ace has off days. Crochet had the worst start of his Major League Baseball career and allowed 10 earned runs and 11 runs overall.
Crochet struggled and his velocity was down a tick, but after the game, Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed that Boston's ace is healthy.
"It felt like he had nothing going away from righties, everything was in," Cora said. "And they did an outstanding job covering pitches. ... The stuff was down, that's the reality of it. But they've been doing that to a lot of lefties lately. ... Tip your hat to them, but at the same time take a look at it tomorrow and see where we're at. ... He's healthy, so that's the most important thing."
Players are going to have bad days. Crochet's start on Monday certainly fits that description. But, he's healthy and that's what matters at this point. A loss is a loss. If the Red Sox had lost 1-0 it would've counted the same in the standings as the 13-6 loss they ended up suffering. Crochet is going to be alright. The most important thing was finding out about his health and he's alright.
