Jannik Sinner is the new Madrid Open champion, and itâs fair to say he got there without breaking much of a sweat.
This latest win over Alexander Zverev â his ninth in a row against the German â was arguably his easiest yet.
From the very first point, Sinner had full control of the match. And once he moved ahead, there was never any sign that it would slip away from him.
The gap between Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and everyone else on tour continues to grow. And now Zverev has been warned of another internal issue, beyond what these two young stars present externally.

Speaking live on Sky Sports, Miles McClagan gave his thoughts on the German, who was second-best from the start.
He spoke about how difficult it is to close that gap, saying: âThe problem that Zverev faces is one many lesser players have faced as well.â
McClaganâs comments came before the match had even finished. He continued: âHe is one of the best players this sport has ever seen and almost the more success you have, the more difficult it becomes to change things.
âHe has not needed to do it against anybody but the top two at the moment. And when you have had success in a certain way for 11 or 12 years now [itâs tough].â
Then once Sinner wrapped up another title in dominant fashion, he added: âHe is in a class of his own right now. Itâs almost astounding the level he was able to produce but I feel a little empty as well. I certainly hoped for more of a contest than that.
The specific score of the match was not mentioned, but it was described as one-sided in favor of Sinner.
Jannik Sinner has now beaten Alexander Zverev nine times in a row.
The loss highlighted Zverev's main weaknesses, particularly his inability to challenge Sinner during the match.

âThe performance was just about faultless in every category. The mental side of things to close out not just the match but a title and another little spot in history. Heâs in such a good place.â
Zverev will now turn his attention towards Rome before heading into Roland Garros and will hope to avoid Sinner until deep into both tournaments.
With this latest win, itâs becoming clear the ATP Tour has a problem on its hands.
With Carlos Alcaraz ruled out for the foreseeable future, Sinner stands alone at the top, well ahead of anyone else trying to catch up.
It doesnât look like thereâs anyone who can even make him uncomfortable, let alone beat him. His win streak just keeps getting longer.
Heâs now taken every Masters 1000 title this year and hasnât lost a match anywhere since February.
