The goal for just about every undersized defensive tackle is to someday be like Aaron Donald. Navy DT Landon Robinson sure falls into that category, idolizing the former Los Angeles Rams star as heās set to begin his own NFL career.
Robinson, an All-American at Navy, is projected to be a Day 3 pick but he has aspirations of having an impact similar to Donaldās. And because of how much he respects the future Hall of Famer, he would love to play for his former team.
Jordan Schultz asked Robinson what his dream jersey was as a kid and he immediately picked Donald, saying it āwould be a blessingā to play in a Rams uniform.
āInteresting answer here, I never really had a favorite team growing up,ā Robinson said. āI watched Aaron Donald my entire life. Being able to play in that jersey would be a blessing.ā
In a previous interview, Robinson said he watches āAaron Donald film every single night,ā which he admits might make him āa little bit of a nerd.ā He tries to model his game after the Rams legend, as do many defensive tackles.
At 5-foot-11 and 293 pounds, Robinson is small for the position, just as Donald was coming out of Pittsburgh. And though heās not the caliber of prospect that Donald was in 2014, he knows what it takes to be great after working out with No. 99.
āI actually had the opportunity to meet him a couple of weeks ago over in Pittsburgh,ā Robinson told Schultz. āHad the opportunity to train with his trainer. I can see why Aaron Donald was such a great player and it was such a great experience and heās such a great person.ā
Robinson is projected to be a Day 3 pick, far different than where Donald was drafted at No. 13 overall. But Schultz asked him what it feels like for some teams to compare him to Donald, and he calls it an honor.
āItās extremely honored,ā he said. āHeās a person, a player who had done so much for the NFL and has completely changed the defensive tackle position. Obviously, I have a lot more work to do to get to his level, but itās an honor. It truly is. Hopefully, one day I can live up to his status.ā
The Rams could use some depth along the defensive line, so maybe Robinson could be a target on Day 3 with one of their sixth- or seventh-round picks.
