The Jacksonville Jaguars have 11 picks in the upcoming NFL draft, despite lacking a first-round selection. GM James Gladstone aims to address roster needs and maintain flexibility with his choices.
One of the best in the NFL draft business, The Athletic's Dane Brugler, put together a full seven-round mock draft. Let's break down each of the Jacksonville Jaguars' selections.
Although the Jaguars are without a first-round pick, GM James Gladstone has 11 picks in total, giving him the ability to address roster needs and the flexibility to let the board dictate which direction he goes with each selection -- not to mention the ability to move around the draft board.
This is one of those instances of taking the best player available. With no roster turnover up front, the offensive line is not a big need for the Jaguars this offseason -- although for a team that prioritized competition up front last season and needs improved play in the run game, an addition to this unit does seem to be in play. But will it happen this early?
Defensive end is a need for the Jaguars. While the team has Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker under contract for the next few seasons, the depth behind them needs a boost, with only BJ Green and Danny Striggow under contract as of now.
ESPN's Jordan ReidĀ wrote recently that tight end is one of the positions that the Jaguars are "expected to target right away on Day 2." An addition here could compete with Hunter Long for the TE3 role or take on more of a developmental role this year, before seeing more opportunities in 2027, when Long and Quintin Morris are free agents.
The Jaguars' pursuit earlier this offseason of Jake Bobo tells us that Gladstone is looking to make an addition here. Beyond Ā Brian Thomas Jr., Jakobi Meyers, Parker Washington, and Travis Hunter, the other wideouts on theĀ rosterĀ are Austin Trammell, Tim Jones, and Chandler Brayboy.
With Devin Lloyd now in Carolina, the starting spot next to Foye Oluokun is up for grabs. And while GMĀ James Gladstone seems bullishĀ about the talent already on theĀ Jaguars' roster at linebacker,Ā particularly Ventrell Miller, adding some additional competition wouldn't be a bad thing either.
Arguably, the Jaguars' biggest need isn't addressed until the fifth round. However, Jacksonville gets good value in landing Benny. His impact won't always show up on the stat sheet, but his ability to occupy space and take on blockers can clog running lanes and create opportunities for his teammates.
The Jaguars seemed to be positioned well at safety with Eric Murray and Antonio Johnson leading the way, along with 2025 draft picks Caleb Ransaw and Rayuan Lane also on the roster. But depth could be added with Andrew Wingard now in Arizona.
Like defensive tackle, I'm unsure if the Jaguars wait this long to address the cornerback position. Re-signing Montaric Brown was very important, not only because of his play last season, but it stabilized the starting cornerback unit for the Jaguars.
This is the luxury of having 11 draft picks. Is taking two wideouts necessary? Not really. But the Jaguars have the flexibility to do so and can lean into best player available.
Two additions on the offensive line in the draft could make for some difficult decisions come roster cutdown time. Cleveland, Edoga, Hainsey, Harrison, Little, Mekari, Van Lanen, Milum, and Monheim account for nine roster spots as is.
Bringing in competition for Carter Bradley and the third quarterback role is very much in play.
