Andy Reid attempted to recruit Troy Aikman to the Eagles after Donovan McNabb's injury. Aikman shared this story during a podcast, highlighting the unusual circumstances of the call.

Once upon a time, former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and Hall of Famer Troy Aikman was in the television booth doing an NFL game for the network when he received a phone call.
It was from Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid. Reid had just lost his starting quarterback, Donovan McNabb, to an injury, and wanted to ask Aikman an important question.
Aikman picks up the story from here.
“We’re getting ready to go to halftime, and my producer says, ‘Hey, I’ve got a number that I need you to call at halftime,’ which he had never done. I was in my third year broadcasting, in the middle of a broadcast, trying to call from the booth at halftime, and there’s no cell service,” said Aikman on the Kelce brothers' "New Heights" podcast.
So Aikman leaves the booth, and to his surprise, it was Reid on the other end of the phone.
“He said, ‘Hey, it’s Andy.’ I said, ‘Andy Reid?’ He says, ‘You heard what happened [to McNabb], didn’t you?’ I said ‘Yeah, we just did a game break on it.’ He says ‘Well, I wanna talk to you.’ I said, ‘Andy, I’m in the middle of a broadcast.’ And he says, ‘I know you are. I need you to call me after the game,” Aikman explained.
Aikman called Reid after the game, and Reid wanted him to come out of retirement and play for the Eagles.
“So I called him after the game, and he was selling me on why I should come out of retirement and go sign with the Eagles and play for them. They were playing Monday night, the next game was against the 49ers. Obviously, I didn’t do it.” Aikman concluded.
Anybody who follows football knows there is no love lost between the Eagles and Cowboys, so had Aikman joined Reid in Philadelphia, it would have been blasphemous.
