Angel Reese couldnât be more excited about the Atlanta Dreamâs picks during last nightâs WNBA draft. On social media, the former Chicago Sky player shared her enthusiastic reaction to the Dream selecting South Carolina alum Madina Okot with the 13th overall pick. Following the draft, Okot also opened up and shared her feelings about playing alongside Reese during her first year in the league.
After being selected by the Dream, Reese posted her over-the-top reaction to the news on X, formerly Twitter.
âYAY! MADINA!!! Another walking double double!! LETâS GOOOO!!!â her post read.
The Dreamâs decision to draft Okot comes after the organization parted ways with 6â9âł Brittney Griner, who recently signed a seven-figure deal with the Connecticut Suns, which will relocate to Houston, Texas, in 2027.
Okot started playing basketball only six years ago, according to the Greenville News. She played 3Ă3 basketball for Kenyaâs national team before playing for Zetech University, Mississippi State, and finally South Carolina.
Joining the Atlanta Dream is a big deal for Okot, who told the media she couldâve never imagined herself being part of the WNBA draft just a few years ago.
âJust being here today means so much to me,â she said. âSix years ago, I didnât see myself being here today ⊠my dream was to play professional or be in the W(NBA) but I didnât know it was going to be after six years. If I could go back, Iâd tell my younger self â(Iâm) so proud of her. She never gave up. She had to go through a lot and kept moving forward.'â
Okot will join the Dream team alongside other South Carolina alums, including All-Stay Allisha Gray and the dynamic second-year Te-Hina Paopao.
Elsewhere during her media interviews, Okot opened up about playing alongside Reese, who was traded to the Dream from the Chicago Sky on April 6.
âIâm so excited that Iâm going to be able to compete against the greatest players that Iâve been watching, looked up to growing up,â Okot said. âJust the fact that I already know Iâm going to be beside Angel Reese, that is a very big blessing to me and Iâm so excited to learn so much from her ⊠Iâm sure sheâs going to teach me a lot.â
Reeseâs trade came months after bumping heads with Chicago leadership, per The Blast. In a statement, the organizationâs general manager, Jeff Pagliocca, said the move was also designed to help achieve more balance on the roster.
Dream general manager, Dan Padover, praised Reese as a âdynamic talentâ during his press interview and said acquiring the LSU alum was a âno-brainerâ for the team.

Reese brings a fresh perspective and undeniable grit to the Dream. Coming off a 2025 season where she dominated with 23 double-doubles and led the league in rebounds, itâs no surprise that she became the most coveted piece for teams looking to bolster their roster.
âAngelâs [Reese] a special talent. I mean, everybodyâs aware that sheâs the best rebounder and the most relentless rebounder in the league,â Dream head coach Karl Smesko said. âBut I also appreciate the other skills that she brings the team, from competitiveness to being able to handle the ball. Sheâs somebody that can grab and go, she can be on either side of a pick and roll. I think that versatility just makes her kind of a unique talent.â

NBA legend Carmelo Anthony also agrees with the trade, according to The Blast. During an episode of his podcast, the former Denver Nuggets player said Reese âwas getting too big, as far as her brand, for the organization in a sense.â
âHer level of play is going to rise with the level of competition and what you surrounded with,â Anthony added. âIf youâre surrounded with people who not thinking like you and donât have the competitive nature you have, that sh-t can be draining. So, now youâre going to a team who has championsip aspirations.â
