The Los Angeles Angels have one of the best players in the sport currently on their roster in Mike Trout. But he's struggled to stay healthy and play at a high level in recent seasons.
That's not been the case this year. He's off to a hot start, as evidenced by his ridiculous series in New York, where he hit five homers against the New York Yankees.
But, after so many years of struggles, it's hard to fully believe in Trout being back to All-Star levels. However, MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger is urging Angels fans to believe in Trout's resurgence this season for a few different reasons.
"He's back to looking like his MVP-caliber self after making a slight tweak in his mechanics, as he's now slightly stepping back for swinging," Bollinger writes. "He's making contact at an elite rate and has cut down on his strikeout rate while proving plenty of power. He's returned to center field and is running the fastest he has since tearing his meniscus in his left knee in April 2024."
While there are sure to be skeptics about Trout being completely back this season, there are some reasons why believing in this resurgence makes sense.
He's back in center field full-time, which is some great news for Trout's involvement on the team. Add in his sprint speed being at a good level, a sign he's finally healthy, and there are already two reasons to believe in this resurgence.
But it's also important that Trout is swinging as well as he is. His contact numbers are strong, and it translates to production.
Mike Trout recently hit five home runs in a series against the New York Yankees, showcasing his strong start to the season.
Experts, including MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger, are urging fans to believe in Trout's resurgence due to his impressive early-season performance.

He has seven homers and a .974 OPS this season, including the five during the Yankees series. While he's not back to his MVP-level performances, if he can produce at an All-Star level, he'd be more than back for the Angels.
One interesting statistic for Trout so far is that he's hitting the ball harder than he has since 2020. His exit velocity this season is a strong 92.8 mph, which is higher than any season since his 93.7 mph mark in 2020.
