Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Jose Soriano earned a major honor after his fantastic start to the season: the American League Player of the Week.
The right-hander became the first Angels pitcher to win A.L. Player of the Week since Reid Detmers won the award for the week of August. 8-14, 2022, and is the only pitcher other than two-time Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal to have won the award since the beginning of the 2025 season.

Soriano made two starts in the span of the last week, and dominated across them both. He pitched a total of 15 innings, allowing a single run and striking out 20 batters throughout. The run he allowed in his first outing of the week against the Atlanta Braves in the only one heās allowed through four starts this season.
On the year, Soriano has 27 innings pitched, four wins, 31 strikeouts and a 0.33 ERA.
After his fourth start of the season on Sunday, Soriano made American League history by becoming the first player to pitch six-or-more innings and allow fewer than one run and three hits in each of his first four games of the season.
Soriano has had a fantastic start to the season, and the Angels will hope he can continue posting zeroes as they make a push for the postseason. Theyāre currently 0.5 games out of first place in the AL West, just behind the Athletics and Texas Rangers, who play each other in a four game series beginning Monday.
