Aiden Sherrell, an Alabama transfer and top prospect, is likely to commit to Indiana, emerging as the favorite over Michigan State. Insiders confirmed Indiana's lead after Sherrell's visit, diminishing MSU's chances.
It appears Michigan State basketball is going to come up short in the battle for a major transfer portal center prospect.
The portal race for Alabama transfer Aiden Sherrell has taken many twists and turns, but it now appears he will be ending up at one of the Spartans' rivals in the Big Ten: Indiana. A number of college basketball insiders started logging predictions and stating Indiana had emerged as the leader for Sherrell on Monday night. That was reconfirmed by Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68 and On3 on Tuesday morning, stating Indiana "remains the favorite" to land Sherrell after his visit finished up.
It was reported earlier in the day on Monday that Sherrell was expected to visit Michigan State this week should he not commit to the Hoosiers after his visit to Indiana. That, however, appears to no longer be on the table based on the recent developments with Sherrell and Indiana.
Sherrell, who is from Detroit, is one of the top prospects in the transfer portal. He started all 34 games for the Crimson Tide this past season, averaging 11.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game. He was a former McDonald's All-American out of high school and received notable recruiting interest from the Spartans at that time as well.
With it all but locked up for Sherrell to end up in Bloomington, Ind., the focus for Michigan State will once again shift to other transfer portal center prospects. There are still a few out there that Michigan State has been tied to, but it's unknown at this time who will be their next priority target.
