Minnesota Timberwolves coach Chris Finch slammed referee Tony Brothers for unprofessional behavior during a playoff loss to the Spurs. Anthony Edwards downplayed the shouting match, even though staff had to restrain the official during the game.

Following a high-tension exchange between the Timberwolves head coach and veteran official Tony Brothers, star guard Edwards chose to diffuse the situation with a supportive comment, stating, "Tony Brothers is Tony Brothers. We all love him".

The incident occurred during the Timberwolves' 115-108 Game 3 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on May 8, 2026. Tensions flared when Finch attempted to call a timeout with approximately five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and felt Brothers ignored him for several seconds, nearly causing a turnover.

Finch described Brothers' conduct as "completely unprofessional behavior" and stated he , "I want my three seconds back," and that Brothers "clearly heard" him but initially ignored the request.
