The Arizona Diamondbacks made the following roster moves. The D-backs’ 40-man roster is at 39.
As expected, the team gets Moreno back of the IL. Hopefully, he’s able to slot back in: obliques can be tricky things. It’s just another notch on Gabby’s injury bedpost, with sixteen games missed as a result of this strain. James McCann will probably be glad of the break too. While there was an alternative, in the shape of Garcia, he saw hardly any playing time. Just one start, and a couple of late-inning defensive switches: a total of a mere ten innings in the field since being called up on April 14. With Adrian Del Castillo having seen much more time behind the plate, you wonder why Garcia was called up at all.
With Abner being burned yesterday, throwing 34 pitches, and the bullpen struggling from another short outing by a starter, it makes sense to keep churning the bullpen. Well, the players that have options anyway, which is basically this slot and Juan Morillo. And since the latter has a 1.84 ERA, the lowest of anyone to have pitched for the D-backs this year, I doubt Morillo is going anywhere soon. Garcia was part of the return from Seattle for Josh Naylor. He made 12 appearances for Arizona after the trade, with a 5.84 ERA and a K:BB of 13:5 over 12.1 innings. For Reno, he has a good 2.19 ERA, but has been walking more than usual: a K:BB of 18:10, coincidentally also in 12.1 innings.
