Ayak Akol and TJ Douglas have been named the Ames Tribune's Athletes of the Week for April 19-25. Akol received 38% of the vote after her fourth-place finish in the girls high jump at the Drake Relays.
Ames girls and boys track and field athletes Ayak Akol and TJ Douglas were voted the Ames Tribune's female and male Athlete of the Week winners for the week of April 19-25.
Akol won female Athlete of the Week with 38% of the vote.
Akol stepped up with a fourth-place performance in the girls high jump for Ames at the Drake Relays on April 24.
Ames girls track and field athlete Ayak Akol was voted the Ames Tribune's female Athlete of the Week for April 19-25.
Akol peaked with a jump of 5-5. She cleared that distance on her first attempt.
Douglas won male Athlete of the Week with 37% of the vote.
Douglas placed third in the boys 400-meter hurdles during the Drake Relays on April 25.
Douglas clocked in at 52.66 seconds to earn his bronze medal. He only trailed Waukee's Jayden Jeter (52.25) and Bettendorf's Gage Tucker (52.60).
