Baltimore Orioles Get Promising Adley Rutschman Injury Update

The Baltimore Orioles received a promising update during their current series against the Cleveland Guardians from catcher Adley Rutschman, who has been sidelined for one week with a left ankle injury.

Rutschman was placed on the 10-day injured list on April 11 after sustaining the injury while running to second base on a double during a game against the San Francisco Giants.

He felt his ankle tweak on the play, finished the game, but woke up the next morning with significant swelling. The setback halted what had been a strong start to his season. However, Rutschman is hoping he can return sooner rather than later.

“Adley Rutschman (ankle), who traveled with the club despite being on the IL, said he’s ‘feeling good.’ He doesn’t want to get ahead of himself and predict when he could return, but he seems optimistic. The earliest he can return is Tuesday,” reported Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun.

The update is a good sign for an Orioles team that has been playing inconsistent baseball to open the year. Rutschman was one of the few consistent bright spots before the injury, posting a .294 batting average, .385 on-base percentage and .855 OPS through his first 10 games.

He looked like he was returning to the form he showed early in his career, when he earned two All-Star selections and a Silver Slugger Award while quickly establishing himself as one of the best catchers in MLB.

Last season was a difficult one for Rutschman, who battled multiple injuries and never found his stride at the plate. The Orioles believed a healthy offseason would help him bounce back, and his early performance supported that hope. Losing him this early in the year was a blow, especially for a team that has struggled to find consistency in the lineup.

Rutschman has spent his entire career with Baltimore after being selected first overall in the 2019 MLB Draft, and he remains central to the Orioles’ long-term plans. If he returns to full strength, the Orioles’ path back to playoff baseball becomes far more realistic. Baltimore sits at 10-11, playing mediocre baseball but still carrying high expectations for the season.

The Orioles need to get healthy, and Rutschman’s progress is a major step in that direction. If his optimism proves accurate, Baltimore could have its franchise catcher back in the lineup as soon as Tuesday, and that would be a significant boost for a team trying to regain momentum.
