Barack Obama surprised Warriors coach Steve Kerr by asking about Jonathan Kuminga's role in the upcoming NBA season during a recent dinner. This question highlights the team's strategy to balance veteran players with emerging talent.

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has won enough championships that he has now enjoyed multiple celebratory visits to the White House.
While he has not visited during the current or previous Trump administration, as a player and as a coach, he has had the privilege to meet multiple sitting and former U.S. presidents. That includes more than one visit with Barack Obama, who served as the 44th president of the United Stated States of America.
When Kerr was head coach of Team USA during the Olympics in 2024, the former president met with the team as well. The two also visited at a dinner party, per Wright Thompson, where Obama asked Kerr a very specific NBA-related question (via ESPN):
EVEN BARACK OBAMA knew the biggest problem Kerr would face in the first month of the season: what to do about forward Jonathan Kuminga. During the summer Kerr went to Aspen to speak at a conference. Columnist Thomas Friedman invited him to a small dinner party. Kerr arrived and went out onto the deck for cocktail hour overlooking the mountains. Then Obama arrived, security in tow. He made a line for Kerr.
"Coach!" he said, and almost before Kerr could respond, he asked, "What's gonna happen with Kuminga?"
Obama, like all fans of the Warriors and the NBA, was really asking about the two timelines, which had been the team's plan to kick-start a new dynasty.
It is incredible that Obama was paying such close attention to this interesting inflection point in Golden State's franchise history.
But given his love for basketball and strong relationship with Kerr, it is hardly a surprise, either.
