Barcelona reignite interest in La Liga full-back with €25m release clause
As per fresh developments from SPORT, it has come to light that Rayo Vallecano defender Andrei Ratiu is once again on Barcelona’s radar as they assess options at right-back.
The interest is not entirely new, as Barcelona had monitored the Rayo Vallecano defender last summer, but circumstances have shifted since then.
Back then, it was more of a tentative link, but now, it is being viewed as a serious possibility, especially with uncertainty surrounding Jules Kounde.
It must be noted that there has been growing talk of interest from the Premier League for the French defender, and if a strong offer arrives, the club may be forced to consider it.
In that scenario, Barcelona do not want to be caught unprepared, which explains why they are revisiting profiles like Ratiu.
From a sporting point of view, the Romanian full-back fits the bill, as he is seen as a natural option for the role, capable of offering balance in defence while also contributing going forward.
Barcelona's renewed interest in Andrei Ratiu is driven by the need to strengthen their right-back position amid uncertainty surrounding Jules Kounde.
Andrei Ratiu has a release clause set at €25 million, making him a viable target for Barcelona.

However, signing him will not be straightforward, as Ratiu recently extended his contract with Rayo Vallecano, pushing its duration until 2030.

That renewal has significantly strengthened Rayo’s position in any negotiations. On top of that, the Madrid-based club now holds full control over the player’s rights after buying out Villarreal’s previous share.
As things stand, his release clause is set at €25 million, a figure that Barcelona will need to carefully evaluate given their financial planning.
Despite these complications, there is one factor that could work in Barcelona’s favour.
Club president Joan Laporta shares a good relationship with Rayo’s president, Martin Presa.
While Presa is known for driving a hard bargain, that connection could open the door for negotiations if Barcelona decide to move forward.
Within Rayo Vallecano, there is full awareness of Ratiu’s growth and rising value.
The club knows they hold a player with increasing demand, meaning it would not be an easy negotiation for Barcelona.
