âWe never give upâ â Manchester City boss Jeglertz delighted with late winner against Liverpool
Rebecca Knaakâs 91st-minute header was enough to separate the two sides as Manchester City moved to within a win of the Barclays Womenâs Super League title.
When speaking to the media after the game, Manchester City boss Jeglertz said that he was really pleased with how his side continued to search for the winning goal.
âIt was a tough game, but I think that says something about this group that even if there are parts in a game where we struggle a little bit, [we find a way to win],â Jeglertz said. âLiverpool might be difficult for us, but finding a way to win is a thing that we talked about earlier this year. It shows something about the group that no matter what, we never give up and keep going, believe and trust what weâre doing. We got over the line in the end, so thatâs nice.â
Midfielder Laura Coombs announced the news that she will be retiring from football at the end of season and Jeglertz shared his thoughts on the playerâs Manchester City legacy.
He said âI think first of all, sheâs an amazing person, sheâs positive which means a lot for the culture in the group. She makes sure that everybody is seen and heard in the group. That is one thing about culture and about how she is and the other thing, of course, sheâs a great player.
âYou can put her wherever you want on the field, you can play her almost everywhere. Also, she always has the right attitude to train, do her best in everything sheâs doing.
âOf course, you will lose that kind of mentality and personality. She affects so many other players by that personality.â
The final score was Manchester City 1, Liverpool 0.

Manchester City have two games remaining before the summer break and Jeglertz revealed what he feels the team need to work on.
He said âI believe so much in the players, what weâre doing, how we are believing in the process and believing in each other. I always feel that there are parts where [we can improve]. We need to make sure that we donât concede any goals because we will create chances [at the other end]. We will do that with this group of players, we always create chances, but we need to be a little bit better in the defending, so the opposition donât score. You always have a feeling that we need to make sure we do this better.â
