Barcelona submit license request to use Montjuïc stadium for 2027/28 season
Barcelona are preparing contingency plans for the later stages of the Spotify Camp Nou renovation project.
As such, the club has requested permission to continue using the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys during the first half of the 2027/28 season.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the request has already been submitted to the Barcelona City Council as a precautionary measure while the club prepares for one of the most delicate phases of the stadium redevelopment.
The concern centres around the planned installation of the new roof at Spotify Camp Nou, a process expected to begin during the summer of 2027.
Technical studies being analysed by the club estimate that the work could take between four and five months to complete.
That timeline would directly affect the beginning of the 2027/28 campaign, making it difficult for Barcelona to host matches at the renovated stadium during the opening months of the season.
Because of that uncertainty, the club has begun preparing alternative solutions to avoid logistical complications later down the line.

The decision to request availability at Montjuïc is therefore viewed as a safety measure rather than a confirmed plan.
As per the outlet, Barcelona are still considering multiple alternatives while the renovation project continues.
One possibility remains the expansion of the Estadi Johan Cruyff, which currently holds around 6,000 spectators. The proposal would involve increasing its capacity to approximately 10,000 seats.
However, that option would require an investment close to €14 million while still generating significantly lower revenue compared to Montjuïc.
The Olimpic stadium remains financially more attractive due to its much larger capacity, and for that reason, the Montjuïc solution is currently gaining the strongest support internally.
Barcelona are conscious that unexpected delays could still affect the renovation timeline.
Should construction work take longer than initially expected, the club believes having Montjuic secured in advance would provide far greater logistical stability and financial certainty.
