Barcelona’s interim president on winning the league title vs Real Madrid: ‘The earlier, the better’
Barcelona are closing in on the La Liga title and could mathematically secure it as soon as this week, with a Clasico against Real Madrid on the horizon that has fans dreaming of the most dramatic possible coronation.
Ahead of tonight’s clash against Osasuna, acting president Rafa Yuste spoke to the media and was asked directly about when and how he expects the title to be wrapped up.
He was cautious in his first response, though admitting excitement was hard to miss.
When asked about when Barcelona would want to secure the league title, knowing there is a chance they can celebrate it in front of Real Madrid, Yuste said he wants to wrap it up soon.
“As soon as possible, as soon as possible. At that point, there’ll be no room for any doubt, and we can let our joy run free, but I always like to be extremely cautious — and so we’ll go match by match, as Flick himself says, step by step,” he said (h/t MARCA).
With many Barcelona fans openly hoping the title can be clinched against Real Madrid next week, Yuste was asked whether he shared that sentiment.

“I agree with what I’m hearing and what the players and the coach himself are saying, which is that the earlier we win it, the better.”
“Our duty is to win the league, and speculating about how and when that happens always makes you lose focus. In this case, everyone is at the peak of focus to win the three points today.”
Pressed one final time on whether this week or the Clasico would be the preferred moment, Yuste returned to the only answer that matters to the camp.
“The league is decided when we win it mathematically, and that’s the usual phrase always, isn’t it?
“So, our focus today — and we were just discussing this with the team — is set on trying to secure these three points, with respect for the opponent as I always say, and nothing else, just securing the three points,” he concluded.
