Shohei Ohtani's ERA shrinks even more with brilliant outing vs. Giants
Shohei Ohtani shines with seven scoreless innings vs. Giants, ERA at 0.82!
Bayern Munich targets Newcastle's Anthony Gordon amid interest from Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea. Meanwhile, FC Barcelona and Robert Lewandowski may part ways as transfer rumors heat up.
Mentioned in this story
Bayern Munich has made Newcastle United attacker Anthony Gordon its top priority for the summer transfer market, but the Bavarians are not alone — far from it:
It could be true that Barcelona would like to sign Anthony Gordon. The agents are making a lot of calls, a lot of meetings, around Europe. There was a meeting with , contact with , contact with … they’re allowed to do that, as they know Newcastle need the money this summer to keep on the right side of Financial Fair Play. Barcelona were offered the player, but they can’t afford the kind of transfer fee we’ve been talking about. Bayern, on the other hand, could pay this if they wish to. So it’s getting interesting to see who’s joining the poker table. I’m personally more afraid of Chelsea, as they have the resources to make a deal happen.
Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich are all vying for Anthony Gordon's signature.
FC Barcelona and Robert Lewandowski are reportedly heading for a divorce, with transfer rumors surrounding the player.
Newcastle United needs to sell players to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations, which may influence Gordon's transfer fee.
Bayern Munich has a strong chance of signing Anthony Gordon as they were early in their pursuit and can meet the financial demands.

Not to mention, they could use Nicolas Jackson as a makeweight in a potential swap deal (and we know Newcastle are interested in the Senegal international). But, I think Bayern Munich still have a good chance to get this deal done, as they were very early on the market for Gordon. They can also rely on fellow England international Harry Kane to tell the 25-year-old just how good life in Munich is! Chelsea is a serious threat, but Arsenal and Liverpool could also make strong appeals to the Englishman. If Gordon has any doubt about jumping abroad, his domestic options could be appealing. As Bayern Munich seems to have zeroed in on the 25-year-old, the club surely hopes that is not the case.
Former Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso is on Chelsea’s radar, but Liverpool is also — allegedly — keeping a close eye on the ex-Bayern Munich midfielder. With Arne Slot on shaky ground, could Liverpool seek to act early to avoid missing on Alonso? Maybe:
Liverpool have made contact with Real Madrid officials to quell any doubts they may have about the potential appointment of Xabi Alonso to replace Arne Slot as head coach this summer. AS claims that with Slot under pressure, officials from Anfield have been calling to make background checks on several options, which includes Alonso. The former Liverpool midfielder was dismissed from Real Madrid after six months in charge, which altered the perception of the success he managed at Bayer Leverkusen in his previous role. The 44-year-old has also been linked with Premier League rivals Chelsea.
RB Leipzig is always in a state of transition and it could be looking at losing two center-backs this summer:
RB Leipzig are preparing for more movement at the centre-back position this summer, based on Sky Germany’s latest update. The club are not adverse to the departure of Castello Lukeba, and the player himself is also ready for a new challenge.
Lukeba’s release clause stands at €80million, but the Saxony-based club would be willing to negotiate from around €60million. Transfermarkt.com links the 23-year-old with a host of clubs including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Arsenal.
There could also be movement involving El Chadaille Bitshiabu after the French defender was already considering leaving last winter. As a result, nothing can be ruled out for the summer, however Leipzig would prefer to keep Bitshiabu, but they are not excluding a transfer. This is not the first time that Bayern Munich has been linked to Lukeba. Would you be a fan of a move like that?
Manchester United and FC Barcelona are both backing off a pursuit of AC Milan star Rafael Leão:
Manchester United and Barcelona have cooled their interest in AC Milan winger Rafael Leão.
As the days go on, it appears more and more likely that Robert Lewandowski will leave FC Barcelona this summer:
🚨 Robert Lewandowski and Barça, new deal talks are completely on stand-by and the summer exit is now very close.
If there’s no fresh proposal, Lewandowski will leave as free agent.
Saudi Pro League and MLS clubs on it, Italian clubs keen but too expensive.
It’s highly unlikely to see him staying at this stage, as reported yesterday
Per Sport Bild’s Christian Falk, Dušan Vlahović is actually not on Bayern Munich’s transfer radar:
❌ It is NOT TRUE: Dušan Vlahović is on Bayern’s radar. Bayern think he’s too expensive an option to pursue at this point in time. The salary would be a big topic in the team if they were to sign him. So he’s not on the shortlist of three players discussed inside the club. There’s still a hope around Yan Diomande at Bayern, but he would also cost a lot of money. So, Bayern still have their Plan A in Anthony Gordon. Just a couple of days back, we read that Bayern Munich already had spoken with Vlahović’s father about a potential move. What gives? You gotta love silly season… *If you are looking for more Bayern Munich and German national team coverage, check out the latest episodes of Bavarian Podcast Works, which you can get on Acast, Spotify, Apple, or any leading podcast distributor…*
