According to a report from Sport Bild (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich has a plan for the goalkeeper position that encompasses all possibilities. However, the tightness of the goalkeeper group within the team could make it very easy for Manuel Neuer to comeback:
A decision on a possible extension for Manuel Neuer will likely not be made until May. He views the current goalkeeper situation with Jonas Urbig and Sven Ulreich as very positive. Within the group, there is a close, trusting camaraderie.
Moreover, Neuer benefits from the fact that he can ease up in phases and hand over individual matches to Urbig without major concerns. This stable and functioning setup could play an important role in his decision about the future.
The officials at FC Bayern are also extremely satisfied with Neuer’s performances this season. In addition, his advisor Thomas Kroth was in the stadium on Tuesday evening and followed the match from close up.
Neuer also recently spoke about his future as well.
“Right now, at the moment, there won’t be any decision. I actually wanted to use the months of February and March to see what level I’m at and how I’m feeling. But unfortunately, I’ve now been sidelined twice with those muscle injuries in my calf. That didn’t play into my hands, but the club and I have all the time in the world and we’re relaxed… It’s not about the Champions League. It’s about everything. All competitions are important and crucial for us,” Neuer said. “It’s also important how things are in the team, that it’s fun. Many factors play a role – of course also how I am health-wise. Those are all things that are important to me. Due to the injuries, a pillar has now crumbled away from me—the games in crunch time in February and March. But that just shifts a bit further back.”
As expected, this one will take a while to settle.
