The Big Ten distributed a record $1.37 billion in revenue for the 2024-25 year, with Oregon receiving $48.4 million as a new member. This increase is attributed to the conference's success in the College Football Playoff and the addition of Oregon and Washington.
The Big Ten reigned supreme in college sports during the 2024-25 year, having particular success during football season. Four teams (Indiana Hoosiers, Oregon Ducks, Ohio State Buckeyes and Penn State Nittany Lions) made the College Football Playoff, a large reasoning for the conference dishing out a record $1.37 billion in revenue across all 18 schools in the Big Ten.
That mark is up from $883 million the year prior, with the CFP success and the first full year as an 18-team conference with the additions of Oregon and Washington.
As a result, Oregon will receive $48.4 million, a partial revenue share for being a new member of the conference. The partial share will exist until 2030. The Ducks made slightly more than Washington ($46.7 million), also operating with a partial revenue share, because of making the CFP.
Meanwhile, Ohio State received the highest payout of $91.57 million due to their CFP appearance and national championship run. Penn State was the next-highest earner, netting $88.92 million as a semifinalist finisher in the CFP. According to ESPN, "Other full members received between $76.01 million and $79.87 million."
Though they're biting the bullet right now with a partial revenue share for the rest of the decade, the Ducks' move to the Big Ten has paid massive dividends thus far in terms of competition on the playing field. And once 2030 comes and goes, it appears that it'll continue to pay massive dividends as one of, if not the, most successful conferences in college sports.
