The Buffalo Bills are preparing in the 2026 offseason with renewed focus as quarterback Josh Allen revealed a personal shift ahead of his ninth NFL season. Speaking during team OTAs on the Bills’ official channel, Allen shared how fatherhood has reshaped his motivation.
Allen explained that his drive to win remains unchanged, but his purpose has evolved. He said he now plays to set an example for his family, especially his newborn daughter.
“I mean, I think again, the want to win will never change,” Allen said on Monday. “The why – I want to do it has, right? So why do I wanna do it? To show my family, to show my daughter, how hard you need to work in order to accomplish something so great. And, as long as I play this game, that’s gonna be my mindset.”

The quarterback welcomed his first child earlier this month with his wife, Hailee Steinfeld. And it’s clearly evident that being a father is the most important role in his life.
The 29-year-old is coming off another productive campaign. He recorded 39 total touchdowns and over 4,200 total yards in the 2025-26 season. His dual-threat ability remained central to Buffalo’s offense, combining passing efficiency with strong rushing output.
Despite those numbers, the Bills faced mixed results as a team. They finished 12–5 and secured a playoff spot, but did not win the AFC East. Their postseason ended in a tight overtime loss to the Denver Broncos in the divisional round. The result left the team searching for the next step toward a Super Bowl push.
Allen’s comments suggest a more grounded mindset entering the new season. He spoke about learning from past mistakes in the 2026-27 season.
“But again, we are going to just continue to try to keep giving ourselves chances to be in that spot again and try to learn from our past mistakes,” Allen said.
