Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell is set for his final rehab start for the Ontario Tower Buzzers on Saturday, but he won’t be getting a hero’s welcome.
In fact, in honor of Star Wars Night being celebrated by the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on May 9, he’s getting the full villain arc.
The team posted to Instagram a promotional image for the “Star Wars” celebration and the matchup with the Ontario Tower Buzzers, adding the caption “Join us as the dark side takes the mound” alongside a doctored image of Snell’s face in the helmet and armor of Darth Vader.
“Come to the dark side,” the team added, a clear reference to the classic sci-fi movies.
Before we go on, spoiler alert for those who aren’t familiar with the big twist in “Star Wars,” which might include the Quakes’ social media team.
Portraying the Dodgers’ pitcher as Darth Vader is a great way to depict him as evil, but logically, that would mean the Quakes view themselves as Luke Skywalker.
Famously, Darth Vader is revealed to be Luke Skywalker’s father.
Are the quakes calling Snell their father?

To be fair, they probably meant it more generally, in that the Tower Buzzers are a Dodgers affiliate and the Quakes are an Angels affiliate.
They’re both Southern California teams, but the Angels are typically viewed as the plucky underdog, while the Dodgers are the evil Empire.
That said, if Snell gets a big strikeout on Saturday, he’d be missing a great opportunity to scream “I am your father” at the Quakes dugout.
As reported by Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register, Saturday is likely to be Snell’s last rehab start before returning to the Dodgers.
That will create a much-discussed roster crunch, especially in the starting pitching rotation.
Tyler Glasnow’s recent injury might give the Dodgers a bit more time to make a decision, but ultimately, someone will have to be moved.
Likely choices include Roki Sasaki and Emmet Sheehan, but which of them do you think it will be?
