Blue Jays need to call Rockies and trade for award winning outfielder to fix injury issues originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Toronto Blue Jays have already attempted to make some moves to help with the injuries they've dealt with, but there's certainly an argument that more needs to be done.
It's just the harsh reality of what the Blue Jays are currently dealing with, and something the front office will have to decide how they want to handle. If the Blue Jays are as serious about winning a World Series as they appear to be, I expect the front office to be all in on trying to improve things.
It remains uncertain who's available right now, as the year is just starting. However, if the Blue Jays want to get creative, they could call a team like the Colorado Rockies and trade for Brenton Doyle. Doyle has been a rumored target over the past year or so, as the Rockies center fielder has had a nice little career for himself early on. He has 49 home runs in 430 games and would be a nice addition to this organization.
“With all the injuries impacting the Blue Jays outfield, they could look to trade for Colorado Rockies outfielder Brenton Doyle. Doyle is off to a rough start, slashing .174/.255/.261 through 15 games.
“But he's a two-time Gold Glove defender, and he's only two years removed from a 3.9 WAR season. The Blue Jays could look to add him for much less than the typical asking price of an outfielder of his talent level. He has elite speed with an elite glove and above-average power. It would be the ultimate buy-low move for the Blue Jays,” Zach Pressnell of SI wrote.
There are always questions about adding players from Colorado, as they typically don't perform as well outside of Coors Field. However, Doyle doesn't seem to be one of those guys, especially due to still being just 27 years old.
The Blue Jays are dealing with multiple injuries that have significantly impacted their outfield performance.
Brenton Doyle is a center fielder for the Colorado Rockies, known for his potential, having hit 49 home runs in 430 games, making him a valuable trade target.
Brenton Doyle is currently struggling, with a batting average of .174 and an on-base percentage of .255 through 15 games this season.
